Sometimes We Get in Our Own Way: Weathering the Storms

As the Corporate Mermaid, I've swum through enough seas to know that sometimes, we get in our own way. It’s like being in the middle of a turbulent ocean storm, with waves crashing and the horizon invisible. At that moment, it’s hard to see why the storm is raging or how long it will last.

These “storms” in our lives—whether they are self-doubt, fear, or the pressures of high expectations—often cloud our vision. We might be battling the choppy waters of a project deadline, the tempest of a difficult client, or even the whirlpool of self-imposed perfectionism. In these times, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed and lost.

But here's the thing about storms: they pass. And when they do, we gain clarity. The turmoil that once seemed insurmountable becomes a distant memory. We can then see the lessons hidden in the chaos, like precious pearls in the seabed. We understand that the storms were necessary for our growth and transformation.

By stepping back and reflecting, we recognize that our biggest obstacles often stem from within. It’s our own thoughts and fears that turn manageable waves into overwhelming tsunamis. Embracing this truth is the first step toward navigating the storms more gracefully.

Remember, dear mermaids, the next time you find yourself in the thick of a tempest, pause and breathe. Know that once the storm subsides, the sea will be calm, and you’ll have a clearer, more insightful view of your journey.

Keep swimming and laughing at the absurdities of corporate jargon, because clarity and calm are just beyond the horizon. You too will laugh again at office humor and surely you have your funny office mug as a reminder.🌊

Stay strong, and may your seas always bring you wisdom.
